Karl Lagerfeld always said he had three professions: fashion designer, photographer and publisher. Photography seemed especially important to him and inspired his other two passions. With the best models, friends and collaborators, and the finest printing techniques at his disposal, Lagerfeld could realise almost any project, staging not only his legendary fashion shows at the Grand Palais in Paris but also his large photo projects. In his photography he plays confidently with themes and positions from art and literature, and with seemingly old-fashioned ideals. Accompanying the exhibition of the same name at the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale), the catalogue gives the first comprehensive overview of his photographic work.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
