Vera Mercer started taking pictures in Paris in the 1960s, portraying her then husband Daniel Spoerri and other members of the Fluxus group and the Nouveaux Réalistes; she also photographed Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp for magazines. After a long creative hiatus she returned to photography in the early years of the new millennium with opulent neo-baroque still lifes of flowers, fruits, freshly killed game, antique glasses and candles, in large formats. Her fourth monograph presents her most recent colour still lifes and a novelty in her oeuvre: restrained black-and-white flower pictures and portraits.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
