Catalogue of the exhibition of Thomas Ruff's Portraits, Houses and Stars series, shown at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, at the Magasin in Grenoble and at the Kunsthalle Zürich. The cover carries the title in Dutch, French and German, with a text by Els Barents. Houses (Häuser, made between 1987 and 1991) are serial building portraits, edited digitally to remove obstructing details. Stars (Sterne, from 1989) are enlarged details of archive images of the night sky, taken with a specially designed telescopic lens, from the Catalogue of the Southern Sky that Ruff acquired from the European Southern Observatory in Chile.
