Absentia is a project that narrates a journey back to the author's native city (Mexico City) after emigrating to Canada, where she stayed for more than a decade. The book is composed of seven notebooks, each evoking her experience of navigating seven cities: Cali, Buenos Aires, Quito, Lima, Havana, La Paz and Mexico City. As a narrative tool she uses her travel diaries, experimenting with different types of paper and printing processes. The project becomes a reconstruction of her own territory and explores issues related to cultural identity. Relating landscape, memory and territory, it also speaks of nostalgia, loss and belonging.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
