The passion, chance and irreplaceable time that live in photographs. Yoshino's new work takes its title from the aroma oil extracted from the flowers of the bitter orange: a complex scent in which the nectar of the blossom mixes with the smell of bark and leaves. Images distilled from gathered time and from the relationship with the surroundings are entrusted to scent to evoke what they stir in the viewer. Reflections caught in mirrors, repeated images of water, set-ups made with the jackets of favourite records, re-photographed prints, pictures that suggest the creation and loss of the photograph itself: a small fictional world built by the photographer blends with reality and moves towards a precious moment that cannot be held. The delicate binding wrapped in yellow cloth is part of the book's appeal, and an essay by Yutaka Kikutake at the end compares her photographs to a music box slowing down, when the notes become more abstract and turn into the anonymous tone left over from the tune.
