A gaze on where life resides within the chain of time. Tryadhvan is the Sanskrit Buddhist term for the three worlds of past, present and future. Eriko Koga, married to a monk and living in a temple, sees in daily life the turning of time and of karmic ties, and the new life she carries leads her to touch still deeper, unknown depths of time. With two heartbeats in her body and a changing physique, the camera records the unease and the surge of impulses she holds, in which a mysterious, living body that is hers and not hers appears. The still lifes around her and the life of the temple respond to each other beyond sacred and profane, and deep darkness and dazzling light coexist in one frame with quiet tension. Unfolding old family albums and the temple's register of the dead, she asks what her own existence is and what life is at its source. The book, with every page double-leaved and bound in the Japanese stab style, records an inner journey through the three times, in which she lets go of herself and confirms herself.
