Photobook dummy by Marco Gehlhar (Italy and Germany), shortlisted for the Dummy Award 2026. The book explores the connections between the environmental crisis, the threat of nuclear war, and one of humanity's biggest questions: are we alone in the universe? The project ties the chance of humanity going extinct to the search for alien life, seen through the lenses of science, faith and popular culture. The cover is a yellow-and-black collage of vintage UFO newspaper clippings and advertisements, flying saucers, radio telescopes and a nuclear mushroom cloud. The Dummy Award, organised by the PhotoBookMuseum in Cologne, shortlisted 48 unpublished dummies from about 325 entries from more than 45 countries; the shortlist travels on a world tour of photography events and venues.
