Words and photographs of the photojournalist Akihiko Okamura, known worldwide for his coverage of the Vietnam War, the conflict in Northern Ireland and the Biafran war. Rooted in thorough scepticism and breadth of view, he photographed what needed to be told. The text is excerpted and arranged in six chapters so that the essence of his thinking and the relations within it can be seen, with 32 colour pages at the front. Moving between battlefield and daily life, he cut into places of life and death in everyday life such as medicine and hospices, and his viewpoint carries great meaning for our turbulent age. For him war was always the theme, even in peacetime, and he cut the battlefield with the gaze of daily life and saw daily life as a battlefield.
