A series on the small habits of the artist's mother-in-law. After his marriage Motoyuki Shitamichi, who had lived in Tokyo until the Great East Japan Earthquake, moved into his wife's family home in Aichi, a time-worn house with built-in furniture designed by his wife's grandfather, an architect. At the table he noticed the improvised lids his mother-in-law made for dishes, and over three years he secretly photographed them; the series then continued as Wife's Covers. A humorous portrait of a new family landscape shaped by relationships renewed every day, it gathers by photography what is scattered through daily life yet goes undiscovered, an original creativity happening before one's eyes. The cover is composed from the shapes of lids the artist traced.
