In the early 1980s Michiko Kon shocked audiences with high-contrast monochrome photographs of sculptural arrangements built from vegetables, fish, old furniture and other things, constructed and photographed at her own house. Her reputation spread overseas and she has gone on publishing newer and greater works one after another. This book is arranged as a kind of retrospective, from her early period up to 2011. The softcover is a streaked deep purple-red with the title in large block capitals.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
