The first book of M/Light, a label created to bring the photography of an experienced generation to the attention of young readers. It gathers 23 black-and-white works made between 1969 and 1989 by Akihide Tamura, whose early series House was shown in the 1974 exhibition New Japanese Photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, curated by John Szarkowski and Shoji Yamagishi. Tamura's life has run alongside the rapid transformation of Japan after the Second World War, and his pictures keep recording his keen feeling for that metamorphosis, in monochrome images of windows, roads, overpasses and horizons.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
