Katsumi Omori's project of spring 2011, after the great earthquake and tsunami of northern Japan. Having photographed cherry blossom at many places across Japan since 2001, he made a road trip north from Tokyo and from Urayasu, the suburb where he lives and works, through Fukushima, Iwaki, Hirono, Minami-Soma and Iitate, places damaged by the tsunami and the nuclear accident. The book holds 15 vertical pictures of cherry blossom, each with a pink reflection inside. It is remarkably large in scale, and its pages are not bound: the sheets are loose and unbound, coming in a box, so how to look at them is left entirely to the reader.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
