The fourth solo collection by Seiji Kumagai, after Bible KUMAGAI Seiji, Seiji (2001) and Towards more shined places (2008). It holds 50 colour snapshots, each given a caption of its own by the photographer. Every scene, beautifully and quietly shaped in tender natural light, seems to tell its own story as the leaves are turned. Kumagai hopes the captions will act as headings for fifty different stories, each turning inwards to the reader and to himself and growing into further stories. His gentle, composed outlook was formed by the grandeur of nature in Hokkaido, and he describes himself standing before a door without a knob, knowing it opens onto anywhere at any time.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
