Hat & Beard Press joined with Fahey/Klein Gallery, the foremost photography gallery in Los Angeles, to produce The Mash Up, which fuses Janette Beckman's iconic hip-hop portraits with graffiti-based interpretations by a wide-ranging selection of graffiti artists curated by Cey Adams, among them Crash, Futura, Lady Pink, Lee Quinones, Queen Andrea, Revolt, Todd James and Zephyr. The portraits show New York hip-hop pioneers such as Run DMC, Slick Rick, Salt-N-Pepa, Grandmaster Flash and LL Cool J, and the pages shown online include Keith Haring. The pages show the portraits overpainted with lettering, bright colour and collaged paper, and the book exists with two alternative covers, one in green and one in orange.
