A traumatologist measured her body with the instruments that lie on the artist's drawing table, like an architect of the human frame. Like the column of the Vitruvian temple, that measuring accepted only the symmetry, the proportion and the verticality of a well-formed body, the unit of measure of all architecture. The spine is the support needed for balance, but when the overloads can no longer be borne the cracks begin to appear; and it was the music the artist made with others that became the material that sealed the cracks of her own structure and let her recover balance.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
