On 9 February 2020 in Mexico City a twenty-five-year-old woman, Ingrid E.V., was murdered by her partner. Grisly pictures of the femicide, taken at the scene by the authorities, were circulated by Mexican tabloids, which had no qualms about spreading her dismembered body across their front pages. The complicity of the press and the police sparked a wave of protest, and a call went out to flood the internet with other images under her name. The work is built from that counter-flood, and asks what images of a woman may be shown and by whom.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
