Keisha Scarville has spent much of her life tracing routes of movement between the Caribbean and America in order to investigate her own lineage. Attempting to understand how notions of belonging and identity are formed, her practice makes visible the latent narratives inscribed within the thresholds of memory across generations. This first publication unfolds as a sprawling, hypnotic visual essay that interweaves striking monochrome pictures with archival imagery, passages from books, collages, personal texts and film stills, moving between practice and archive.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
