The debut by Zuzana Pustaiová is an ironic commentary on the social norms that shape daily life. Routine, gender stereotypes and role-play — shown literally as the wearing of masks — are examples of a cultural code that binds a society together while imposing pressure on the individual. Working with very bright colours and constructed images that borrow the language of advertising, the artist asks where the boundary lies between a norm that holds people together and one that constrains them, and how the individual feels inside a world of recommendations and restrictions learned from early childhood.
