Named one of the most beautiful books of Austria 2014

In 2003, this artist launched a series examining human behavior through network cameras -- surveillance devices that take still images -- revealing the sometimes striking discrepancy between social pretense and social reality. This book documents the fourth installment, in which the lens was trained on a grand ball: two cameras moved continuously in a grid pattern, taking shots every three seconds. Arranged in a single sequence, ten thousand of these frames form a panorama recreating the entire space while capturing only fragments of events.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
