Introduction by Frits Gierstberg
Around 100 photographs

This publication accompanies the first solo exhibition about a Hungarian-born artist's work in Rotterdam. Mostly known for his movies, since 1930 he also worked on photo reports at the harbours of the city, shown here for the first time. He aimed his camera on cranes and bridges to catch a dynamic image of the modern steel constructions, experimenting with positions, lines and shapes to give the images an abstract character.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
