Some of List’s main cultural references also have Italian roots, and Galimberti’s works are a natural graft onto List’s. The thread that joins them is the ability to build innovative, seductive images while rooted in a strongly established tradition. For the German master critics have spoken of classicism; for Galimberti the most explicit references are the European avant-gardes of the early twentieth century, in particular the kinetic research of the Futurists and Marcel Duchamp’s Dada opening. The book explicitly recalls List’s style and poetics, whose Mediterranean images are the basis of an inquiry that aims not to reproduce the same subjects but to evoke equally solemn and timeless atmospheres. It gathers three series by Galimberti, each made in a different season on the island of Capri, getting to know it in its deepest and most hidden aspects beyond the tourist evidence.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
