For Wenders a central moment of photography is the perception of time. Wherever he is, an abandoned town in the Midwest, the Australian desert, a clearing in a Japanese bamboo forest or Berlin’s Alexanderplatz wrapped in fog, photography constantly refers to the uniqueness and singularity of the instant: "Every photograph reminds us of our mortality. Every photograph is about life and death" (Nicole Hartje).
