"Giuseppe Tornatore is from Bagheria, and so am I. Now he has made the film Baarìa; a few years ago I made a book, Quelli di Bagheria, of photographs and texts, a kind of novel of memory. I wanted to write something about this: a text dealing with the double problem that I think crosses his being and mine, what we are and what we do, the problem of memory and of the languages with which we face and narrate our memory. From all this comes this book of two Baarioti" (Ferdinando Scianna).
