First of three volumes on the history of Italian photography
In those years a generation of young people began for the first time to think of photography as a profession, and this new osmosis between amateurs and professionals produced results of a quality never matched again. They were crucial years in Italian history, and photography was the tool that best represented not only the rapid transformation of society during the economic boom but also a system of values that still identifies Italian culture in the world. Photographers then had printing papers extraordinarily rich in silver, allowing very sophisticated ranges of greys and blacks that today’s materials can no longer reproduce: for this reason a second volume gathers a new, careful selection of 221 of the most representative pictures of those years.
