The creatures Moon captures are caged, confined within the glass cases of the museum’s historic buildings, trapped and lifeless; where there are no physical barriers she creates them through her lens. At first sight the pictures look like X-rays, grainy and dark. The series explores solitary figures, like the lone stork with its back to the viewer; the use of colour is masterly, deep shades of emerald and turquoise with strong crimson tints, and an assortment of parrots and flowers brings in liveliness. "Fossilised, embalmed, stuffed, real or fake, dead or alive, printed on film, mineral, vegetable or animal: these are my not very natural stories, shown at the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle in Paris. My vision is embalmed and fixed, since the instant is already dead when I catch it. To create the illusion, the chimera, to animate the inanimate: I have always thought of myself as a bit of a taxidermist when I photograph, trying to bring ghosts to my side, to save what I see from oblivion." The work was shown in Reggio Emilia during Fotografia Europea.
