In 2000 the city of Regensburg set up a grant for artistic-documentary photography, on the premise that a photographer should answer the world of images that surrounds and shapes us by formulating a picture-world of their own. Hoch, the second holder after Zoltán Jókay, answers with the cool, sober look that his work is known for, subjective in spite of its evenness, and fixed on space and on urbanity: what a built environment looks like when nobody is performing in it.
