It is because of the importance of The Americans by Robert Frank, released in France in 1958, because of the fact that he stopped photography just after for the cinema - the same year, 1959, that the book appeared in the United States -, because of the considerable influence he had on generations of photographers and also and above all because a large part of his work from the 1950s remains little known. This book, with Robert Frank's photographs from the collection, from the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, is the first to focus on this work with 131 prints including 22 originals from the Americans, and above all more than 100 unknown images. We find there the major themes dear to the photographer and especially his photography which is both objective and very personal.
