Over the years Marianne Mueller built up an archive of photographs taken at home, in everyday life and on extensive travels. Mueller records, entirely non-hierarchically, whatever catches her eye. Her archive is the starting point for STAIRS ETC, an extensive collection of images of our designed and built environment. Ordered by the simplest categories (from chairs and tables to fountains and pools), arranged in double-page blocks, the images offer a pseudo-encyclopedic overview of everyday object culture, taken with elegant casualness and a sharp sense for the supposedly incidental and insignificant. Mueller's book invites a poetic and absurdly comic world tour through the wonders and follies of a world crammed with things.
