27 dicke Bilder und fliegende Sätze gathers photographs of 27 figures made of painted clay — miniature portraits of 26 people in all: poets, writers, draughtsmen, painters, sculptors, installation artists, photographers, musicians and filmmakers, but also gallerists, editors, collectors and art historians. “It began when I suddenly felt like depicting some of my artist friends, making a small clay figure of them to show each one's particular way of working and of seeing the world. In the first part of the book I wanted the text accompanying each figure to play the role of 'spark plugs': briefly flaring lights that flicker around the whole.
