Usually a catalogue appears in connection with an exhibition, supplementing, explaining, supporting — and sometimes criticising — the exhibited works. The contemporary exhibition catalogue is an accessory of memory; libraries and bookshops are full of these “corpses” reminding us that nearly everything once conceived as art has also been produced and exhibited. This publication is bound up with the life and work of the artist Athene Galiciadis. The book follows no exhibition, nor do the works gathered in it precede the book; created to stand independently and along specific chronologies — those of the artist and of those who inspired her — they are shown here for the first time. The book contains colour reproductions, printed on graph paper, of figures, spirals, patterns and vases, a self-portrait of the artist, and photographic documents inspired by Emma Kunz, the Swiss artist, healer and visionary known above all for her drawings on graph paper made with the aid of a pendulum. Starting from Kunz's precise and empirical approach to the production of knowledge and art, Galiciadis created a new series of drawings whose constellations of forms and patterns allow us to enter her perception and interpretation of the world.
