Since the late 1990s, Andres Lutz — alongside his visual-art work (together with Anders Guggisberg) and his stage-performative activity (as Dr. Lüdi) — has made his black sheets in a mixture of asceticism and pleasure. He draws the pen, dipped in white ink, mostly without preconceived plans, across the empty dark surface, which is also an imagined space, a nocturnal window. A crack of light, as if cut with a blade into a stretched cloth, emerges. Something is in the world that ten seconds before was not.
