Production & ー A line billows, bleeds, multiples, overlaps, creating a plane. As soon as a shape emerges, it goes away. ISHIDA Takashi is known for his "drawing animation" videos, created by repeatedly drawing a line, taking a photograph of the line, and putting the sequence of the photographs together. He has been primarily working in the media of video and live performance, using them as moving paintings that enclose time, paintings that erode space, and a way to capture the moment when a line emerges. Ishida, who stayed at Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (ACAC), exhibited his works in the gallery of ACAC, which has a characteristic arc shape. This book is a compilation of records. In addition to presenting a new work of drawing animation that was produced during his stay while capturing the structure and light of the gallery space, he also presented a sculpture work that was created by cutting out and combining planes with curves as his first attempt. The works that stand on an arc will lead you to a rich world born from a single line while moving back and forth in various dimensions such as pictures and images, motion and stillness, light and shadows, planes and solids, and time and space. ー ISHIDA Takashi Born in Tokyo in 1972, Ishida is a painter and videographer. Ishida began to fully dedicate his attention to his paintings onward from 1990, the entering into the realm of videography from around 1992. He has since garnered acclaim for his works, including the original video piece for the Aichi Arts Center, “The Art of Fugue” (2001), together from “Kami no Kabe – Seisei suru Niwa” (2007), produced in residency at the Yokohama Museum of Art.
