Italian / English text

On the evening of 13 January 2012 the Costa Concordia, with 4,229 people aboard, struck a shallow seabed off the island of Giglio. Three hours later the cruise ship lay on its side a few metres from the coast: it was the largest ocean liner ever wrecked in the world, and the tragedy claimed 32 lives. Ten years after the shipwreck, the Costa Concordia no longer exists. Symbol of a disaster, the wreck was righted, dismantled and largely recycled: thousands of tonnes of steel now lie in the foundations of bridges and buildings. What remains today of that tragedy? Objects scattered across the country, relics that tell stories, traces of memory of life aboard, stories of survivors, the fear of death and the joy of salvation.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
