Released on the occasion of Drew Escriva's inaugural solo exhibition Bird Show at Umico Gallery, LA. When Drew first came to me with the idea of a zine to accompany her beautiful work for Bird Show, I didn't know what the outcome would be, both in its content and physicality. It’s not really about birds, there are only a handful of birds in it. It also ended up being an proper book which (as a zine head) I was not expecting, but that’s ok. I am thrilled to share this representation of Drew's work and am excited to release the book. “Bird Show is a culmination of imagery created over the past 6 years, inspired by a bird obsession and a desire to memorialize life’s seemingly mundane moments.” In the artist's words the book is a culmination of six years of imagery inspired by a bird obsession and by a desire to memorialise life's seemingly mundane moments. Colour photographs of birds, water, nudes and landscapes.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
