This body of work is closely tied to Koudelka’s personal history. In 1970 he left Czechoslovakia and went into exile in England. He then travelled for over twenty years in Europe and around the world in search of nomadic lives, to the rhythm of fairs, carnivals and pilgrimages, and his photographs reflect his own condition as an exile and the experience of belonging nowhere.
