In the 1920s the image of the “New Woman” was propagated: the independent, sporty, dynamic woman with a bob. Some only portrayed this type; other women were far ahead of their time even without a fashionable hairstyle. Annelise Kretschmer lived her ideas of a free existence, which was nevertheless strongly subject to the times. In her daily work the photographer specialised in portraits. This volume shows photographs, especially of children and young women, with atmospherically dense pictures from her travels to Paris, Spiekeroog and Hiddensee as well as motifs from the Ruhr area. Annelise Kretschmer knew how to combine the demands of everyday professional life with a visual language of her own.
