Fee Schlapper did not photograph according to the supposedly high school of portraiture of her time: instead of going into the studio she went with her clientele to the nearby park, and there she did not set up elaborate equipment but used her Leica, a handy small-format camera. This produced impressive single and group portraits of children and young people, whom she often photographed again after many years. Serious and concentrated, the little and big models look into the camera. The pictures capture personalities rather than staged situations; they show people in their time and are yet entirely timeless. The volume contains her best photographs from five decades, including pictures of Yehudi Menuhin and Ludwig Erhard.
