Since its founding in 1951 the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh) has been committed to the cultural concerns of photography and related image media. It devotes itself not only to author photography but also to the medium’s other fields of application such as science, education, publishing, business and politics, and with its various prizes it honours unconventional methods and new image media. This volume of Zeitprofile gives an overview of the recipients of the DGPh’s world-renowned Cultural Award from 1959 to 2014. The publication is a homage to the printed photograph, presenting the laureates’ work through printed double pages from books, catalogues and magazines.
