A critical essay in the form of an encounter and dialogue between Buddhism and photography: a substance is not fixed, a shadow is fixed. Kurenbo is the meditation space that Akiyoshi Taniguchi built in a corner of his temple in 2006 and where photography exhibitions were held; the book looks back on those exhibitions and on the words written about them. The main text, in which the photographer Naoya Hatakeyama translates and interprets why and with what significance Taniguchi thinks and speaks of Buddhism and photographic technique together, is a question and a prayer meant to rouse a deeper discussion of what photographic art most needs now. In his preface Hatakeyama argues that of the many words and expressions in the world, only those that touch the truth of difficult thought are handed on beyond positions and eras.
