Colour, light and time have proven pivotal factors in Inge Dick’s creative work. This applies to her painting, various architecture-related art projects and the photographic images she has been generating since the 1980s. The artist primarily worked thereby with Polaroids, which are also at the centre of the overall project Lichtzeiten. Polaroids, like no other technology, permitted Inge Dick to make light and time visible. It was hence a logical consequence that prior to the publication Inge Dick had already begun to consider a new conceptual framework for visualising time. This gave rise the film “zinnober” which continues the central concept of Dick’s photographs: This is in turn concerned with the changing of light on a monochrome surface. At the same time the film was also occasion for Swiss composer Roland Dahinden to conceive the musical composition of the same name “zinnober”. Together with the artist he created an impressive spatial realisation of the overall project.

ABOUT

The project

SpineIndex is an archive of independent books on photography and visual culture: photobooks, publications, design books and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.

Images and rights

Covers, interior pages and descriptions are shown to introduce and identify the books, always crediting publisher, author and photographer and linking back to the publisher. We ask publishers for their permission, and we remove anything on request within 7 days. If you are a publisher, an author or a photographer and you want something changed or removed, write to info@spineindex.it.
