A photobook that quietly watches two travellers moving through the snowy landscapes of Hokkaido, the setting of the film Abiding, in which Michiru and Toa share moments that remain beyond words. The pictures were taken during the shoot by the film's director, Sara Masuda, who is also a photographer; although some images began as film stills, together they form a quiet current of their own. Colour and black-and-white pictures weave through the sequence and a second Abiding emerges that breathes at a different rhythm from the film. Snowfields, forests and frozen lakes, in the light of the Hokkaido she loves, hold the silence and distance that arise between people and the faint warmth that sometimes appears within them.
