What in other families is the guest room was called the “Africa room” in Anne Schönharting's family. Until recently it was in a semi-detached house in Diera near Meissen, where it moved into the parents' house after the fall of the Wall. For four generations the “Africa room” was the place for the collection of great-grandfather Willy Klare, who from 1907 to 1914 worked as a cocoa-plantation manager in present-day Equatorial Guinea on behalf of a Liverpool trading company, and amassed numerous objects: weapons, everyday items, taxidermy and jewellery. Hundreds of photographs, letters and postcards from that time are also preserved.
