“Fashion photography offered me the possibility to stage ideas and dreams and to formulate the image of women and men that I had in my head. It was also a parallel counterpole to documentary photography, in which I staged nothing.” Ute Mahler began with fashion photography already in 1975, after completing her studies at the HGB Leipzig, and although fashion photography was then of only incidental interest to her, it became central to her work.
