Hardly any photographer in Europe today still ventures “without a lawyer” onto the street to photograph people in the best street-photographer tradition. Michael Dressel does it, still and again. In his adopted home Los Angeles he looks where most of us look away. His camera is the open visor with which he meets the people on the streets, who know that he is photographing them. Every portrait, every scene reveals much about the fates of the people and about the city in which they live.
