Every word in the dictionary, in order, replaced by a picture. Heyes and West took the Oxford English Pocket Dictionary and its 21,110 words and put each one through the largest image search engine on the internet, keeping the first result. The words and the definitions have gone; what is left is the machine's answer to them.

The title comes from the verb to google, entered into the Oxford dictionary in June 2006.

“A book that could never have existed in the past, and to browse through it is to marvel at how far we've come visually in the past few decades — and how blasé we've become.” — Douglas Coupland

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
