Published on the occasion of the exhibition Non-Fiction at Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Guimarães

"In the middle of the sea, somewhere between Manhattan and Staten Island, a man follows me." Published for Príncipe's largest exhibition to date, Non-Fiction is a heartfelt reflection on how to use photography. It combines pictures with entries from a dream diary kept over the last twenty years. Together with much new work we revisit frames from different earlier series and learn more about them — where and when they were made, how they relate to one another. Non-fiction is what you experience with your eyes open, what you eyewitness; fiction is what you see with your eyes closed, your dreams, what you imagine. Here the two interact in mysterious, humorous, significant ways, until non-fiction becomes so close to fiction that it can only be defined by its negative.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
