In his essay the writer and artist tells of recovered memories, of wishes charged with longing, and of the bitter and painful disappointment that Europe, his place of refuge, turned out to be. The text bears witness to how, in spite of racism and exclusion, he finds his way back to his many and many-voiced identities and develops there his own poetic language and strength. It is accompanied by thirteen collages that deal with diaspora, desire, isolation and belonging.
