RVM is a magazine of documentary photography and other narratives — short stories, illustration, longer pieces — and with the Redo Issue it returns rebuilt from the foundations: independent, published by the newly founded RVM Hub, with a new editorial team, new collaborations, new themes and a new graphic identity by art director Francesca Pignataro. Starting from red, the magazine investigates the contemporary world using a series of colours as a medium, almost as if they were photographic filters able to unravel a reality that is often hard to understand, asking each of them, issue after issue, for a lift across our own time. Red recurs throughout in three variants, beginning with the cover artwork by Sunday Büro, in which the title and its double appear and disappear depending on whether the enclosed pvc sheet is laid over it — the same sheet that accompanies the reader inside, revealing content hidden among shades and patterns. Conceived as a magazine-book of fluid identity, it is a publication to collect and to read again, enriched by an unusual tactile experience produced by the use of eight different papers. The body of the issue is made of five Projects, each given its own sixteen-page section, tied to five short stories commissioned from contemporary writers, each inspired by the photographic project it accompanies. Seven shorter columns follow in the second part: an essay on the use of red in Kodachrome film, an exchange of images between two authors, an unpublished view of a great archive, a book review, an atlas of cartographic narratives, a reinterpretation of an iconic picture in illustrated form, and a column moving between cinema and photography.

Photographers and illustrators: Davide Monteleone, Carlotta Cardana, Sanne De Wilde, Robin Hammond, Guram Tsibakhashvili, Harry Gruyaert, Fred Herzog, Tod Papageorge, John Gossage, Guido Guidi, Alberto Korda, Todd Hido, Andrea Bozzo. Curators: David Campany, Clement Saccomani, Alessandra Piolotto, Giulia Zorzi, Sara Sanzi. Writers: Nicola Ravera Rafele, Claudia Durastanti, Roberto Mandracchia, Paola Soriga, Giulia Caminito.

ABOUT

SpineIndex is a digital platform dedicated to independent photobooks, photography publications, design books, and self-published editions — the kind of work that rarely makes it into bookshop windows or mainstream catalogues. It exists to document, connect, and keep visible a world of publishers, artists, and makers who operate outside conventional distribution. A living reference for anyone who takes this territory seriously — collectors, researchers, students, and the simply curious.
