Text by Jean-Marie Drot
The title evokes both the myth of the forest in which one gets lost and that of the Middle Ages, taken up by contemporary artists who, like Giuseppe Penone, explore the links binding us to nature and in which the tree plays a leading role. Thierry Ledoux records the bark of trees in the forests of the world in black and white. The silver prints he makes are extremely worked, in muted greys and deep blacks, and invite the most diverse evocations. Jean-Marie Drot's text encourages dream and reverie by analogy with the forms perceived in that bark.
