The publication of this work in 1972 was one of the most important events in the recent history of the medium; it would be no exaggeration to say that the field was a different place after it appeared. It was repeatedly reissued between then and now, and the effect it still has is as great as it was.

This 2020 version is built around the eighty images of the original. The series consisted entirely of frames in landscape orientation, and earlier printings ran one across two pages, so that every image had a fold down the middle; here that was avoided.
